Who Cares?

David Schwartz places emphasis on seeking humane and community-based responses to individuals with intellectual and physical disabilities who sometimes get caught up and lost in the maze of social service systems. He illustrates this with touching accounts of individuals. Schwartz does not advocate the overthrow or dismantling of the social services, but instead proposes supplemental responses that will lead to richer, better lives for both the recipient and the caregiving individual and community. The practical methods that he suggests grow out of both his own practice and his informed experience of a state social services agency. Keyword: Community Development
