Initial steps for developing a caring school

An extract that discusses ten steps/directions for transforming schools so that they meet the needs of all students within a single, inclusive system. It acknowledges that change is a long term process that takes much discussion and involvement noting that nothing worth accomplishing ever happens overnight. The ten steps represent places to begin not places to end. The ten steps are: Take the labels off the doors and take the labels off the students, Take the labels off the teachers, Establish a school philosophy of caring, Consider the whole staff, Build the school as a community, Honour and celebrate diversity, Think about curriculum broadly, Stress co-operation rather than competition, Empower everyone in the school. The final step for the reader to take.
